  • The Bank of America Racing Challenge, our flagship program. Horses compete in regional qualifying races for the right to race in the Challenge Championships each fall.
A single enrollment makes a horse eligible for any Challenge race, including regional, Bonus and Maiden Challenge races.   Once you enroll a horse, it’s enrolled for life, and fees are as little as $300. Call the Challenge hotline at (877) 222-7223 for assistance with enrollment, race nominations or to answer any of your questions.
BREED IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

(shared between four breeds – Quarter Horse,  Paints, Arabians and Appaloosas)

The Other Breeds Improvement Program (BIP) funded by Horse Racing Alberta (HRA) is structured to nurture and enhance the race horse breeding industry in Alberta. The program is designed to promote and champion “AB-Bred” race horses.   Funds are allocated to support bonus programs for Owners, Breeders and Stallions and enhance purse support for Restricted “Foaled in Alberta” Stakes Races including the Alberta Stallion Stakes Program.  A bonus is earned for Owners and Breeders of horses that were foaled in Alberta and placed third or better in a race on all tracks in Alberta.  Stallion Owners receive a prorated bonus based on eligible earnings of their progeny.

As the program has evolved, rules of eligibility and payouts have been established to manage the incentives programs efficiently and effectively to ensure funding is directed to supporting racing in Alberta, its breeding industry and economy.

2021 BREED IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FUNDING REPORT

The 2021 Owner and Breeders’ Bonus, and Stallion Bonus were mailed the first week of December. A total of $25,000 was distributed for the owner and breeder’s bonus for overnight races carded in QH distances (yards) and had more than four(4) starters.  Owners and breeders who meet the minimum payout level and had current AQHRA memberships will receive, respectively, 8.54% and 12.5% bonus on eligible earnings in eligible races. The Stallion Owner bonus of $12,500 was prorated among the eligible stallions with earnings and meeting the minimum payout levels.
