The Alberta Quarter Horse Racing Association promotes Quarter Horse Racing through the encouragement of breeding and ownership, as well as track development. Inaugurated in 1968, Quarter Horses have been competing in Alberta since 1957, beginning at the Millarville racetrack.
Governed by Horse
Racing Alberta, the AQHRA membership
has increased by 57% in the past four years, a number which
is on the increase due to purse enhancements and improved
racing environments in Alberta.
Among the annual AQHRA events is the Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity (RG3) which boasts an estimated gross purse of $100,000 each year; the Annual Canada Quarter Horse Cup Auction, held every September, with 40 to 60 yearlings consigned. This sale is the premier racing Quarter Horse sale in Canada. As well, the AQHRA hosts the Alberta Bred Futurity (RG3) which boasts a $75,000 purse each year.

Mezoomn (#8) outfinishes KR Profitability, Zillas Secret and Heart Streakin in the 2006 Horsemen's Open Derby (Lethbridge).
